Boston-based Cluster MVP Allan Hirt has been working with SQL Server since 1992 and clustering for well over 10 years. He got his start with databases as an intern at SQL Solutions, which then got purchased by Sybase where he remained an intern until the end of college. Allan has used every version of SQL Server that Microsoft has released for Windows. Before founding his own company in 2007 and recently co-founding SQLHA with Ben DeBow, he worked for various companies including Microsoft and Avanade. Allan travels all over the world to provide consulting, training, and other services to customers of all sizes. While a good portion of time is focused on high availability and disaster recovery related topics, he also does quite a bit of work in most of the IT-related infrastructure topics for SQL Server such as consolidation, virtualization, disk configuration, administration and operations, and more. You will often find Allan speaking at local user groups, SQL Saturdays, and various conferences like PASS Summit, SQLBits, and TechEd as well as doing various webcasts during the years. He has authored quite a bit of content over the years including articles for SQL Server Magazine and whitepapers for Microsoft that are up on TechNet and MSDN. He is the author or co-author of a few books, the latest of which is Pro SQL Server 2008 Failover Clustering (Apress) published in 2009. Allan is currently working on its followup, Mission Critical SQL Server 2012, due out in 2012.
