Brian is a general practitioner and has worked as a family doctor for over thirteen years. During that time he also moonlighted for the Ontario Hydro Nuclear Power Research facility where he was a central figure in developing a robot used to analyze metal fatigue inside the pressure tubes used by the Canadian CANDU nuclear power stations. Brian developed imaging software based on reflected signals emitted by ultrasonic transducers held by the robot’s arm inside the pressure tubes, using similar techniques to obstetrical ultrasound machines. In 1999 he became CTO for StraightThrough Inc, a financial technology company offering products and consulting services to institutional investors. In 2003, he was appointed CTO of Systemware Inc, an engineering firm based in Toronto, Canada. He was chief architect in the development of several highly scalable n-tier applications, all of which are heavily based on Microsoft DCOM and COM+, Microsoft SQL Server, and .NET technologies. He is a strong advocate of secure programming for all developers, regardless of their area of expertise. In 2011, Brian joined the open heart surgery team at the Royal Columbian hospital in New Westminster, Canada, and is responsible for the perioperative care of the cardiac surgery patients treated at that facility. Chasing down bugs is an important part of Brian's life.
